Southern Logan County voters made a statement on Tuesday’s primary election in the County Commissioner District No. 1 race by voting out the incumbent.
In the Republican primary, challenger Marven Goodman edged out Mark Sharpton by 46 votes in six precincts. Goodman tallied 958 votes or 51.2 percent of the vote. Sharpton finished with 912 votes or 48.8 percent.
The results will be certified by the state on Friday.
With no Democrat or Independent on the ballot, Goodman, who is retired from the Oklahoma Military Department, will assume the commissioners role.
“This is really heady stuff, honestly it really has not sunk in yet, man door to door and keeping good notes seems to work,” Goodman said in a social media comment.
Goodman received a boost in his campaign with the endorsement from State Rep. Jason Murphey.
On Goodman’s website, Murphey proclaimed “Marven Goodman is the most qualified candidate to straighten out the Logan County budget nightmare and transition Logan County government to a new era. I will vote for Marven Goodman and I hope you will consider doing so as well.”
