GPD and LCSO combine forces to recover stolen property; man falls from attic

Updated on Aug. 16, 2017 — Two more suspects have been arrested and charged for several items being stolen from a Logan County home.

Thaddeus Quilimaco (pictured left) and Michael Smith (pictured right) have both been charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and burglary in the second degree. Carlos Owens (pictured center) received the additional charges of burglary in the second degree and conspiracy to commit a felony.

Both Quilimaco and Smith were handed down $75,000 bonds. Owens was dealt a $50,000 bond.

All three are due back in court on Aug. 24.

A Logan County resident reported guns, jewelry, coins and cash had been stolen from his residence. Following search warrants by the Logan County Sheriff’s Office and the Guthrie Police Department they were able to locate the missing items.

The homeowner said the missing items were taken between July 23 and 24. Investigators said three people were believed to be involved and were driving a dark green Honda with a paper tag. The green Honda was later spotted in front of a Guthrie residence.

Officers approached a home in the 100 block of Autumn St. and found Carlos Avery Owens lying in bed under a blanket with his shoes on pretending to be asleep, according to a police report. Once outside, Owens gave officers consent to search the Honda.

Inside the vehicle, officers found a red ring box that contained a female wedding band set and two other gold-colored diamond men’s rings (valued at $9,000). After further investigation it was learned the items were stolen from the residence.

Owens, 19, agreed to talk with GPD’s Lt. Mark Bruning and said he drove a person to the home, identified as the house where the items were taken, and that the person went inside for 15-20 minutes while he sat in the vehicle. Guthrie News Page is not releasing the two other suspect’s names as they have not been charged with the crime as of Monday afternoon.

A search warrant of Owens’ home revealed a torn up a paper tag that was on the Honda.

The police report states Owens confessed to the burglary and that the other suspect and others were involved. Owens said that two rifles were placed inside a couch after the robbery at a nearby home.

A second search warrant was granted and the rifles were located and identified as the stolen rifles. In addition, an ammunition box containing baseball cards and ammunition were also located and confirmed stolen.

Owens later told detectives the location of other stolen firearms and cash.

Owens has been charged with two counts of knowingly concealing stolen property. He was given a $50,000 bond and is expected back in court on Aug. 24.

Suspect falls through ceiling, escapes from patrol unit

A third search warrant was conducted in the 400 block of E. Springer and as officers were going through the home an officer spotted movement from the ceiling. Moments later, portion of the ceiling came crashing down along with the lower body of Michael Eugene Smith.

A Logan County deputy pulled Smith down and was taken into custody without incident.

Smith, 18, was placed in a patrol unit, but somehow managed to get himself out and took off running in handcuffs. He was captured four blocks away.

Smith was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, escape from arrest and obstruction of an officer.

He was given a $10,000 bond and is due back in court on Aug. 10.
