It has grabbed the attention of the nation – the solar eclipse. As many will observe the eclipse, students in the Guthrie school district will have to watch it online.
In a press release, the school district said they considered the eclipse after several parents questioned them.
“After much talk and consideration regarding the eclipse on August 21, Guthrie Public Schools has decided to require all sites to have indoor recess to prevent any accidental danger from the phenomenon that will be occurring during lunch and recess,” Asst. Superintendent Doug Ogle said.
“While we recognize the importance of being a part of this once in a lifetime event, we will always err on the side of our students’ safety.”
Ogle says staff has been informed to use caution.
“Depending on the sky condition’s, it only takes about a minute and half to permanently damage your eyes, so we ask all GPS employees to use caution and to limit your activities outside between 11:00 am and 2:45 pm.,” the release said.
