Guthrie Upper Elementary recently announced their top four students who have earned Accelerated Reader points for the 2012-2013 school year.
Points were earned by reading books on or above their reading level and then taking comprehension quizzes on the computer. For example, a book written at a second semester fifth grade level with 360 pages would earn the student 9 AR points if all questions over the content were answered correctly.
The students recognized include Osmond Lu, a fifth grader and son of Ziping and Wen Lu, earned 1080 points . Zane McDaniel, a fourth grader and son of Jimmy and Lisa McDaniel, earned 1078 points. Stephanie Shields, a fifth grader and daughter of Jeffery and Marty Shields, earned 800 points. Hayden Hirzel, also a fifth grade student and the son of Jason and Kelly Hirzel, earned 755 points.
Many of John Grisham’s bestsellers for adults are written at this same reading range and all of these students read carefully and often.
