10 kids in Guthrie will get the chance to sing the national anthem at this weekend’s Oklahoma City Thunder basketball game inside the Chesapeake Energy Arena.
The group is gearing up for their big performance on Christmas Day, Sunday, when the Thunder take on the Orlando Magic on the first day of the 2011 – 2012 NBA season.
Guthrie Upper Elementary School’s music director, Cathy Clark, is leading an honor choir consisting of five sixth graders, three fifth graders and two fourth graders.
“It’s pretty exciting for 4th, 5th and 6th graders. Some of them came in and said they have never seen anything like a professional basketball game, but I have seen barrel racing,” Clark said.
The group continues rehearsal’s in the mornings and will meet a few times during the Christmas break for some final fine tuning.
The anthem will be performed at 6:55 with the game tipping off at 7 pm. The students will arrive at 4:45 to go through sound rehearsal.
The game will be broadcasted on Fox Sports Oklahoma.
