As the final day of school comes to an end for school children and summer vacation is nearby, Guthrie Public Schools and Guthrie Upper Elementary will say their final goodbyes to three teachers who are retiring at the end of the year.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mike Simpson, Director of Elementary Education Carmen Walters and Principal Susan Davison recognized 18 teachers, including three who are set to retire.
KarAn Privette, Judy Clark and Lavonda Coffman were surrounded by family, friends and fellow teachers as they were honored for their time in the classroom. All three teachers have spent 20-plus years in the classroom.
Dr. Simpson thanked them for their time and reminded how many young lives they have touched as their time as an educator. In addition, the teachers were given a plaque, a decorative clock with their names inscribed into them as a memento. Afterwards, punch and cake was served.
Also honored were teachers and support staff for service awards.
Earning a 35-year award was Nancy Bradley followed by a 25 year award to Lisa Good.
20 year awards were given to Laura Benham, Cass Brassard, Glenda Jarnagin, Charlotte Mitchell, KarAn Privette and Leah Shuck.
Tammy Adams, Sandra Norton and Ryas Wiss were recognized for 15 years.
Jona Bisig, Lanetta Rowley, Tonette Tolbert, Marion Tyson and Amanda Wilson were given five year awards.
