Guthrie was well-represented this year in the 2015 all-state games this past week in the Tulsa area on the mat, gridiron and sideline.
On Wednesday night, Alex Nelson took down 2014 Class 4A state champion Justin Mcginnis of Glenpool, 7-5, in the 145-pound match at Sapulpa.
After a scoreless first period, Nelson jumped out to a 5-2 second period lead to hold on for the win.
Nelson, a 2015 state runner-up, will continue to his wrestling career at Northeastern Oklahoma in Miami, Okla.
On the gridiron, the Bluejay football program was represented with Beau Davis on defense and L’liott Curry on offense. The duo shined for the Jays on Friday night for the West team in a 27-14 win over the East.
Curry, who will play college football at University of Central Oklahoma, stole the show with eight catches for 144 yards and a touchdown reception. The defensive player of the year in the state hauled in a 41-yard score in the final moments of the game to secure the win.
Watching Curry and Davis do their thing from the sideline was Blake Ziegelgruber, who was representing Guthrie as an all-state queen.
