The Guthrie baseball team started the season, Tuesday afternoon at Squires Field, with an11-1 run-rule in six innings.
Guthrie scored five runs in the sixth inning with a walk by Zane Maltz, an RBI single by Evan Kowalski, an RBI single by Jeremiah Blackmon, a walk by Jacob Friese, and an RBI single by Chase Pfeifer.
Maltz racked up four RBIs on two hits for the Jays and was named the Golden Age Player of the Game.
In relief due to injury, Mason Chavez was in control on the bump. NW Classen managed just two hits off of Chavez, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out four during his 4 1/3 innings of work.
The game’s last lead went to the Jays thanks to a fourth inning rally that saw two runs cross the plate on an error and an RBI single by TC Bolding.
Guthrie tacked on another four runs in the fifth. Maltz started the inning with a double, scoring Camden Wilcott, Tyler Kisner and Chavez.
