One of the most experienced teams in the state met up twice with one of the least experienced teams this week on the baseball diamond.
The Guthrie Bluejays are off to a 1-2 start following a season opening 4-2 win over Perry and dropping two district games with Shawnee, 13-1 and 11-1. The Wolves have won the last two 5A state championships and are going for their fourth straight state tournament appearance.
With only two seniors on the ball club, Guthrie is working a new catcher, shortstop, second baseman, centerfield and third baseman.

Sophomore Jackson Waddell and senior Rigo Martinez are off to good starts at the plate for the 1-2 spot in the lineup.
Waddell is batting .500 with four hits, including a home run on Monday against talented Shawnee right-hander Jake Taylor.
Martinez picked up a multi-hit game in the win over Perry and has at least one hit in each of the first three games. In total, Martinez is batting .667 with four singles.
The Jays will have several days off until they hit the diamond for the Chandler Tournament March 14 – 18. A year ago, the Jays won the tourney.
