The Guthrie Bluejays are off to a flawless start, boasting a 10-0 record and a 6-0 mark in District 5A-1 under head coach Terry Bennett Jr.
The Jays have dominated Guymon, Del City, and John Marshall by a staggering combined score of 103-5.
Next week, Guthrie is expected to extend its win streak with two matchups against Western Heights, but the real challenge begins soon with key district games against Noble, Carl Albert, and El Reno.
Finishing in the top two of the district would secure the Jays a home regional in the postseason.
While the offense has been explosive, Guthrie’s pitching staff has been just as dominant, allowing only one run per game. Sophomore Daelon Rice has been the ace so far, winning five of the team’s ten games with 32 strikeouts and just five walks. Juniors Hayden Clymer and Owen Wilder are each 2-0, while freshman Easton Smedley has also contributed with a 1-0 record.
The Jays will wrap up the Perry Festival on Friday with a 4:30 p.m. matchup against Chisholm before resuming district play.
