Guthrie BOE seeks public input on naming new elementary school

With construction expected to begin in early 2017 of a new school in southern Logan County, Guthrie Public Schools is seeking input from the public on a name for the new school.

Patrons of Guthrie Public Schools overwhelmingly approved a $16.2 million bond issue on May 12, 2015.  One of the largest items contained in the issue was construction of an elementary school located near the corner of Charter Oak Rd. and Douglas Blvd. in the southern portion of the school district. With design and development work currently underway, the GPS Board of Education is seeking the input of district residents on a name for the new school.

An interactive form has been placed on the district’s website. This form asks for the name and address of the person submitting the suggestion as well as the proposed name and reason(s) behind the suggestion.

In a statement from the school district, Board of Education President Sharon Watts said, “We are very thankful of the support shown on the bond issue. Allowing the community to provide input on the name of the new school is one way we can express our gratitude.”

Guthrie last constructed a new school site 27 years ago when Guthrie Upper Elementary was built.

The form may be found at the following link.
