The City of Guthrie hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony on November 5 to celebrate the opening of its new downtown pocket park, a project that turned an underutilized space into a vibrant community feature.
Located next to the city’s downtown retail incubator, The Shoppes, the pocket park was made possible through funding from the Oklahoma Main Street Incentive Grant Program. The program covered half of the construction costs, helping the city transform part of an existing parking lot into a walkable green space for shoppers, employees, and visitors to enjoy.
“This pocket park is more than just a place to sit; it’s an investment in the vitality of our downtown,” said Economic Development Director Shawnda Rooney. “We are incredibly grateful to Oklahoma Main Street and the Department of Commerce for their financial support, which allowed us to realize this vision. This project directly supports our local retail businesses by making downtown a more engaging and beautiful destination.”
The Guthrie Chamber of Commerce co-hosted the ceremony, which also featured representatives from Oklahoma Main Street and the Oklahoma Department of Commerce. The city expressed appreciation to Crossland Construction for its quality work and timely completion of the project. Guthrie’s pocket park was one of only three projects funded through the program to be completed ahead of schedule.
