For the second time in as many tries, the Guthrie Lady Jays basketball team returned home with a tournament trophy. This time a third place plaque.
Guthrie captured two of three games for third after winning their first and third game.
Two weeks ago, the Lady Jays won two of three games to claim the Consolation Championship in the Duncan Tournament.
The Lady Jays started the tournament with a 52-49 win over Class 4A’s Cache to set up a tough battle with Putnam City the following day.
The Lady Pirates jumped out to a 32-22 halftime lead before separating them a touch more in the second half to give Guthrie their fifth loss on the year and in the third place game.
On Saturday, Guthrie got out to a quick start with a 13-2 first quarter lead, but tournament host Chickasha got back in the game when they outscored Guthrie 12-6 in the next quarter. Despite the slow second quarter, Guthrie led at the half 19-14.
Both teams struggled to find the basket in the third, but turned it on in the final quarter by combing to score 35 points.
Guthrie took the game by a final 43-38.
Up next, Guthrie will travel to Piedmont on Tuesday for a North Suburban Conference game.
