The Guthrie High School cross country teams made a strong showing at the Class 5A State Championships on Saturday at Edmond Santa Fe High School, with the Lady Jays placing fifth overall and the Bluejays finishing sixth.
Sophomore Taylor Schroder and junior Isaiah Blevins led their teams, each earning All-State honors with ninth and seventh-place finishes in their respective races.
Schroder completed the 5K in 20:01.13, while Blevins clocked in at 16:15.59.
Head coach Bryce Balenseifen, now in his third season, expressed his gratitude for the team’s success.
“I’m beyond thankful to be a part of this team, this community, and to be a Bluejay,” Balenseifen said. “Thank you to all the coaches, parents, and friends who made this season happen. They couldn’t do it without you all.”
This year marked the eighth consecutive state qualification for Guthrie.
The Lady Jays finished with 175 points, with Bishop Kelley taking the team title at 42 points, and Duncan coming in second with 125 points.
The Bluejays earned 188 points, while Bishop Kelley also won the boys’ team race with a low of 37 points, followed by Classen SAS with 108.
Additional standout performances for the Lady Jays included senior Raley Hooper, who ran a time of 21:13.32, senior Peyton Read at 22:07.33, and freshmen Jaydin Alexander and Avelyn Sallee with times of 22:28.58 and 22:29.63, respectively.
For the Bluejays, junior Kallon Cyphers ran 17:06.88, junior Corbin Madison finished in 17:40.04, freshman Easton Smedley followed at 17:44.69, and sophomore Josiah Dement closed with 18:00.80.
