Guthrie Elementary students collect more than 5,000 items in canned food drive

Students at Guthrie Upper Elementary School spent the month of December giving back to the community through a school-wide canned food drive that resulted in more than 5,000 non-perishable food items being donated to local families in need.

The effort brought together students, families, and staff, highlighting a shared commitment to service and compassion. School officials said the drive showcased how small acts of generosity can make a meaningful impact when the community works together.

In addition to the food drive, students from the We Speak Life group and Guthrie High School JROTC volunteered their time at the Oklahoma Regional Food Bank. The students spent several hours sorting food and packing boxes for Oklahomans facing food insecurity.

The JROTC program alone packed approximately 6,000 pounds of food into 921 palletized boxes, providing the equivalent of 5,175 meals.

Guthrie Public Schools praised the students for their dedication to service and for representing the district through their efforts to help others during the holiday season.
