Guthrie offensive coordinator Scott Mick has guided high-octane Bluejay offenses up and down the field since 2001, but this summer the coach drove a golf ball 144 yards for a hole-in-one.
Mick and his fellow Bluejay coaches took on the WinStar Golf Course in southern Oklahoma. The shot continues to draw conversations around the coaches office.
The ace came on the par three, third hole on the west course. The hole runs east to west, protected with a sand bunker to the right, tree lines outlining each side, homes in the background and a green elevation running front to back.
With a 7-iron in hand, Mick fought the cross-wind and spotted the shot to the right of the green with a roll back to place the Wilson 3 golf ball in the cup.
However, Mick did not see the shot go in, but Jays assistant coach Jason Rice saw the ball disappear immediately. Rice informed Mick as to what had just happened, but Mick was reluctant to believe and chalked it up to the normal teasing coaches give each other.
The ace was the first for Mick.
