For the second straight year, the Guthrie BlueJays will look to clinch the 5A-1 district title when they take on the Western Heights Jets.
The BlueJays (8-0) are off to their second best start in school history as they go for their 9th straight win on Homecoming night inside Jelsma Stadium.
The Jays are 8-2 in the past 10 Homecoming games with the last loss coming back in 2009.
The top ranked Jays will need a win against either a 1-7 Jets team, or an 0-8 team next week in Southeast to claim the district’s top spot that comes with two home playoff games.
A district title would be the third in five seasons (2007 and 2010) for the royal blue and white.
Meanwhile, the Jets are coming off their first win of the season after last weeks 27-13 win over Southeast, but have struggled throughout the season on both sides of the ball.
Western Heights will have the daunting task of controlling a BlueJay offense that will come in averaging a 5A best 42 points per game while the Jets defense allows 46 per game. Guthrie continues to lead the class in rushing yards per game with 277 and is sixth overall in the passing department with 145.
The Guthrie defense continues to be the best in 5A with the fewest rushing (41) and total yards (135) along with fewest points (7.8) per game.
Guthrie and Western Heights can be heard in North Central Oklahoma on 105.1 FM, or world wide on www.GuthrieSportsPage.com. Pregame is set for 7:00 and kickoff at 7:30.
