The South Central PGA recently wrapped up it’s 5-Stop “Player’s Tour” season and the top performers from the boy’s and girl’s divisions are preparing for the Oakley Cup Matches at Shangri-La Golf Club on Grand Lake.
The Oakley Cup Matches is an annual competition between the East Region (Eastern Oklahoma Chapter and Arkansas Chapter) and the West Region (Western Oklahoma Chapter and Kansas Chapter) of the South Central PGA.
The Matches were started in 2014 to recognize the top players on the South Central PGA Players Tour and reward their strong play from the current calendar year – four boys and two girls from Western Ok, Eastern Ok, Kansas and Arkansas qualify through the points they accrue during the five Tournaments for a total field of 24 who will compete over a two day period (Aug 5-6) in Ryder Cup style matches.
An outright victory in any one of the five events is worth 2000 points and virtually assures the winner a spot in the Oakley Cup.
Of the 24 spots available over the three-state section, three were taken by Guthrie High School golfers. Luke Morgan, by virtue of a victory at Forest Ridge in Broken Arrow AND a second place finish at Stillwater Country Club was the points leader for the entire boy’s division and will lead the Western team.
Classmate Bo Robbins picked up medalist honors at Willowbend in Wichita Kansas securing his spot on the Western squad.
Over on the girl’s side, Blueyay senior-to-be Sarah Rhinehart won the individual crown with a two-day total of 153 in the fifth and final tournament at River Oaks to punch her ticket to Shangri-La.
