Following an impressive showing at the regional track meet in Edmond last weekend, Guthrie High School is now setting its sights on the highly anticipated state track meet at Western Heights School this week.
The Lady Jays have secured an astonishing 15 spots in the Class 5A state meet, underscoring their depth and talent on the track. The competition kicks off on Friday with the preliminaries, where Guthrie’s athletes will look to make their mark.
Among the standout performers, Haley Gallo will sprint in the 200-meter run, while Peyton Read will tackle the 800-meter event. Kamryn Boller will represent the team in the grueling 1600-meter race, with Raley Hooper and Taylor Schroder joining her in the demanding 3200-meter event.
Ryn McCormick and Mary Vaughn have qualified for the 100-meter hurdles, while Cora Leach will showcase her skills in the 300-meter hurdles. McCormick, along with Savanah Rodriguez and Alyssa Vaughan, will aim for success in the pole vault event.
In the field events, Lily Rechlin will soar in the high jump, while Marissa Bell will make her mark in the long jump. The Lady Jays will also field formidable relay teams, with Gallo, Rechlin, Oliviah Bryan, and Madi Brooks forming the 4×200-meter relay team, and Hannah Smith, Gallo, Brooks, and Read teaming up for the 4×400-meter relay. The 4×800-meter relay team will feature Hannah Smith, Read, Addison Poupard, and Boller.
Meanwhile, the Bluejays are gearing up for intense competition in four events. Isaiah Blevins will tackle the 1600-meter field, Xavier Williams will compete in the long jump, and Gavin Hood will aim for success in the pole vault. The 4×100-meter relay team, comprising Amare Watson, Gregory Stevenson, Zane Thomas, and Alex Juarez, is poised to showcase their speed and teamwork on the track.
Action-packed days await as field events kick off each day at 9:30 a.m., followed by other events starting at 12:30 p.m. For those unable to attend in person, the meet will be broadcasted on the NFHS Network.
