Guthrie High School inducts seven into Hall of Fame

Guthrie High School welcomed seven new members into the Guthrie High School Hall of Fame during Homecoming week.

The 2018 class includes Patrina Lamb (Davidson), Shannon Friday, Joe Bartram, Roland Miller, Bill Wells, Kyle Smith and Kye Staley.

The seven members were introduced at the Alumni Assembly, in the Homecoming parade, Hall of Fame reception and during halftime of Guthrie’s 70-6 win over Guymon.

Lamb graduated in 2005, participated in cross country and track and earned eight varsity letters. She was an individual All-State member in cross country in 2002, 2003 and 2004. In track, she was the 2002 state champion in the 800 meters and was a member of the 2004 and 2005 state champion 4 x 800 meter relay team.

Lamb helped lead the Lady Jays to the cross county State championship in 2003.

Along with being named Valedictorian in 2005 for Guthrie High School, Lamb earned degrees from Tulsa, Oklahoma State University and Lehigh University.

Friday was a Guthrie graduate of 1992 and earned four varsity letters in golf.

Friday, who did not start playing golf until his freshmen year, was crowned the individual state champion as a member of the 1992 state championship team.

“Coach Keith Young must have seen some potential in me my freshmen year and took me to almost every tournament that year,” Friday said.

Bartram is a 1993 graduate and was a standout in track and cross country. He helped lead the 1991 Bluejays to the state championship, while finishing as state runner ups in 1992 and 1993.

Bartram was a three-time Oklahoma All-State in cross country, two-time 800 meter individual champion and was a member of the two-time 3200 meter relay championship team.

Miller graduated in 1995 and earned All-Conference recognition in basketball. The standout attended East Central University and became their all-time leading scorer, which still stands today (2018).

After earning a bachelor’s degree, Miller played professional basketball in Austria, Portugal, Hungary, France and Poland.

Miller said the game of basketball “gave me an opportunity to continue playing basketball and see the world.”

Wells was a 1982 graduate and helped lead the wrestling program to their only state championship in 1981. In the same season, he placed second, but in 1982 was crowned state champion at 123 pounds.

He was later named first team all-state.

Smith is a graduate 2003 and helped lead Guthrie to the first ever football state championship in 2002.

Smith earned all-district lineman, pre-season All-American, Big All-City and a Daily Oklahoman All-Stater.

The lineman, who also played in the Oil Bowl, attended New Mexico State University and played football.

“Being able to win for our town is something I’ll cherish forever,” Smith said.

Staley graduated in 2008 and earned nine varsity letters throughout high school.

In 2007, Staley was named the Oklahoma Offensive Player of the Year, ESPN All-American and was a member of the 2007 Class 5A state championship football team.

Staley attended Oklahoma State University and played in the Fiesta Bowl, Alamo Bowl, Dallas Bowl and was a member of the 2011 Big 12 championship team.
