Guthrie Lions Club collects nearly 500 pairs of eyeglasses for global vision program

Guthrie Lions Club members Troy Jenkins (L) and Steve Gentling ( R) transport used glasses for the “Gift of Sight” program.

The Guthrie Noon Lions Club recently transported 492 pairs of used eyeglasses to the Oklahoma Lions offices in Oklahoma City as part of their ongoing mission to help provide the Gift of Sight to those in need.

Guthrie Lions Club President Troy Jenkins praised the community’s generosity, saying, “Once again, the citizens of Guthrie, in coordination with the Guthrie Lions Club, have donated used eyeglasses to be repurposed in order to give others the Gift of Sight. These glasses will be refurbished, new lenses inserted, and then distributed internationally to individuals who do not have access to eyeglasses. It is a wonderful program helping others in a very special way.”

Jenkins also expressed appreciation to Guthrie Vision Source for their continued partnership, adding, “A very special thanks to the Guthrie Vision Source office and staff for their support of this program and allowing the receptacle box to be placed in front of their office.”
