The Guthrie Police Department have asked the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation to help investigate a homicide after police found a man dead inside a Guthrie home.
The agency says the body of Francis Maurice Byrd was found Saturday in a home located at 1223 East Vilas.
The state medical examiner’s office has ruled the death a homicide but the cause of death has not been released.
Police found the body after being asked by Byrd’s family, who live in Kansas, to check on him because he had missed a family gathering.
The OSBI says they have several credible leads, but would not discuss those with the current investigation.
The homicide is the first in 2011 for Guthrie with just two homicide/manslaughter’s in 2010 and just one in 2009 according to Guthrie Police records.
OSBI said they are following up on several credible leads Sunday. A spokeswoman could not discuss those leads citing the ongoing investigation.
Authorities are also asking the public’s help in this case. Anyone who saw Francis Maurice Byrd last Thursday or Friday, or has additional information that could assist the investigation is asked to call the Guthrie Police Department at (405) 282-3535 or the OSBI at (800)-522-8017.
