ArtPlace America, a collaborative philanthropic group of foundations, agencies, and financial institutions dedicated to supporting creative placemaking, has named the City of Guthrie as a finalist to receive a $400,000-plus grant to create an outdoor, downtown regional performing arts center.
Guthrie is one of 97 finalists chosen out of a pool of 1,270 inquiries. Each proposed project featured arts as an explicit and intentional part of strategies to help shape communities’ social, physical, and economic futures.
“We believe the Arts are an excellent economic driver in our community. Having a place to showcase talent and bring the community together will provide great economic and social benefits and will promote civic pride as well,” said Cody Mosley, Director of Economic Development for the City of Guthrie.
Final awards will be announced in June 2014.
