The Piedmont Wildcats football season appeared it was over before it ever got started by starting the year off on a losing streak. Now, Piedmont and Guthrie are battling for what appears to be the final playoff spot in the district.
The game can be heard on Hot 93.7 FM, online at Guthrie News Page, Guthrie Sports Page and the live video feed below (www.youtube.com/GuthrieNews).
Piedmont started the non-district with losses to El Reno, Weatherford and Noble, but have won three of their four games in the district, including key wins over Lawton Eisenhower and Woodward for a 3-1 district record.
Guthrie is banking on a Senior Night win to put them in position to take the fourth and final playoff spot for the district. Piedmont would all but solidify their spot with a win.
The Jays simply need to win their final three games and hope that McGuinness and Carl Albert pick up wins over Piedmont.
Carl Albert, McGuinness and Lawton Eisenhower will shuffle the first three playoff spots.
Woodward, Guthrie’s opponent next week, has a heartbeat left for the final playoff spot, but will need a lot of things to happen that they will not control.
Piedmont, who upset the Jays a year ago, qualified for the playoffs last season after not qualifying for several years.
