It was a tale of two games for the Guthrie High School basketball teams as they opened up their season on the road at rival Carl Albert on Tuesday evening to begin their season.
Senior guard Micayla Haynes poured in 14 first quarter points en route to a game high 29 points for a 51-43 win over the seventh-ranked Lady Titans. In the nightcap, the Carl Albert boys jumped out to a 12-0 lead and never looked back in a 79-41 Suburban Conference win.
The Lady Jays (1-0) led the entire game in a match up that featured former Guthrie boys head basketball coach Tim Flanigan coaching the Lady Titans in his first season
Guthrie, ranked No. 9, built up a lead as high as 18 points in the second half, but Carl Albert (1-2) rallied in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to a 5-point game (48-43) with less than a minute.
