The Guthrie Police Department’s lake patrol will see a much-welcome and needed watercraft to help with not only lake patrol, but increase an effective time response on the water.
The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation recently decided to award GPD a grant in the amount of $20,467.00 for a Sea Doo Rescue Watercraft. The rescue watercraft will help the department provide safety patrols and rapid, effective responses to water rescue incidents, enabling first responders to provide lifesaving assistance in the event of floods, water emergencies, disaster relief, and mutual aid requests.
Currently, one boat provides rescue services across the 760 square mile Logan County area that includes the Cimarron River, Cottonwood Creek, eight lakes, and 57 reservoirs.
The Guthrie Police Department’s Lake Patrol Unit averages 200 calls per year for Guthrie and Liberty Lakes alone.
The awarded watercraft will be instrumental in meeting this critical need for more services to make local waterways safer.
