With some available grant funding coming for the Guthrie Police Department, applicants were seen going through several tests last week for opening positions. According to the veterans on staff, they received more applicants than ever before.
Police Chief Don Sweger says applicants gave several reasons why they applied.
“Positive trends within the department, the professional staff that is currently in place, the perception that the department is held in high regard within the law enforcement community and advanced instructors employed by the department and the comradely amongst our staff,” Sweger said.
Sweger continued by saying he was taken back by the responses.
“We were a little shocked by these responses. Of course, we feel that way, but it is not often that outsiders identify those traits about our organization!”
Majority of the applicants passed the physical agility test, which is known as the hardest in the OKC metro, at the department’s gun range. Later in the day, applicants went through the written test.
Next in the process, applicants will go through an oral board interview, background investigation, polygraph examination, psychiatric testing and a medical physical.
“We are always here trying to place the very best people possible to serve you. We care and hope that it shows in everything we do every day,” Sweger said.
