As educators from Guthrie and across the state continue to call for an increase to education funding, Guthrie Public Schools is canceling classes for Wednesday.
For the third straight day, the school district says they will not be in school on Wednesday, April 4.
“This closure is needed due to the number of teachers indicating they will be absent far exceeding the number of substitute teachers available,” Superintendent Dr. Mike Simpson said.

Guthrie joins several other districts from across the state, including Oklahoma City and Edmond.
Simpson says all 12 month Guthrie school employees will report to work as normal or must take the appropriate leave.
For the second straight day, lawmakers did not discuss any legislation regarding education funding.
Several teachers said they would stay at the Capitol as long as it takes to get their message across to lawmakers.

The Oklahoma Education Association released new demands on Tuesday.
The new demands include a fixed House Bill 1010XX which would replace the $50 million funding hole created by the repeal of the hotel-motel tax, to pass the “ball and dice” legislation which would provide $22 million in revenue, and to pass additional revenue to restore the cuts to Oklahoma classrooms by repealing capital gain tax exemptions.
