A Guthrie Public Schools vehicle carrying members of the Guthrie High School Choir was involved in a head-on collision late Friday night on State Highway 33 near Coyle Road. The group was returning from Stillwater after working in a concessions stand at the Oklahoma State football game as a fundraiser for the choir program.
The SUV, driven by GHS Choir Director Bill Perring, was carrying six students at the time of the crash. According to Guthrie Public Schools, four occupants were transported by ambulance to O.U. Medical Center, Integris Baptist, and Stillwater Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Perring was among those hospitalized. Two students were later released at the hospital, while three others were released to their parents at the scene.
The names of the students have not been released by the district.
Two additional vehicles were also involved in the collision, which remains under investigation by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. No initial traffic report has been released.
Guthrie Superintendent Dr. Mike Simpson, who arrived at the scene shortly before midnight, expressed gratitude for the outcome:
“We are extremely thankful that the accident wasn’t worse given how the scene appeared. We expect everyone to make a full recovery. I want to thank the first responders on the scene for their outstanding work including the Coyle Fire Department, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Payne County Sheriff’s Office, Lifenet from Stillwater and the Guthrie Fire Department EMS. They were professional and compassionate in all aspects of rendering aid. This was truly close to your worst nightmare.”
District officials confirmed GHS Principal Dusty Throckmorton and Operations Director Cody Thompson also responded to the scene.
