Guthrie Public Schools to hold special meeting to review policy revisions

Guthrie Public Schools will conduct a special meeting on Monday, June 24, at 7:30 a.m. The meeting will take place at the Administration Building located at 802 E. Oklahoma. The school board will consider action on multiple district policies that require revisions and updates in response to new legislative requirements.

Among the primary items on the agenda are:

  1. Revision to District Policy F-5: Transfers House Bill 3386, effective July 1, 2024, necessitates changes to the district’s transfer policy. This bill mandates that school districts must modify their policies to permit intra-district transfers, ensuring greater flexibility and options for students and families within the district.
  2. Revision to District Policy E-41: Acceptable Use of Internet and Electronic and Digital Communications Devices House Bill 3958, also effective July 1, 2024, requires adjustments to the district’s policies regarding electronic communication between staff and students. The revision aims to ensure that all electronic interactions are conducted in a manner that is safe, secure, and appropriate.
  3. Revision to District Policy E-41C: Internet and Technology Safety The addition of a new policy for digital and electronic communication with students has necessitated a reorganization of the policy sequence. As a result, the existing policy E-41B will be renumbered to E-41C. This reorganization is part of the effort to streamline and clarify the district’s policies on technology use and safety.
  4. New District Policy E-41B: School Personnel Digital and Electronic Communications with Students In accordance with House Bill 3958, this new policy compels all staff members to include parents in any electronic communications with students unless the communication occurs on a school-approved platform and pertains to academic matters. The policy specifies that the sanctioned platforms are the only permissible method for direct communication between staff and students, aiming to enhance transparency and safety in digital interactions.

These policy revisions and additions are part of Guthrie Public Schools’ ongoing commitment to comply with state legislation and to ensure a safe and supportive educational environment for all students and staff.
