Guthrie revives summer swimming program with free pool access

The City of Guthrie is once again making a splash this summer by reintroducing its Summer Swimming Program, offering complimentary pool access to its citizens. Partnering with the First Capital Trolley and the Pelican Bay Aquatics Center in Edmond, the program aims to provide a refreshing escape for residents starting Friday, May 24th.

Guthrie citizens will have the opportunity to visit Pelican Bay at no cost and even book the Trolley for future complimentary rides to the waterpark. To participate, residents need to bring proof of residency to the utility window on the 2nd floor of City Hall to receive a day pass wristband granting access to Pelican Bay. Children ages three and under are exempt from needing a wristband.

Operating from May 27th onwards (Monday to Saturday), the Trolley will depart from Highland Park at 11:30 a.m. and return from Pelican Bay to Highland Park at 2:30 p.m. Patrons will arrive at Pelican Bay when it opens at noon, allowing approximately two hours for swimming and enjoyment before returning to Guthrie at 2:30 p.m.

To utilize the Trolley service, individuals must RSVP by noon the day before to allow proper planning. Reservations can be made by contacting 405-282-6000 or via email at [email protected].

For safety, children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult at Pelican Bay, while patrons aged 13-15 must attend a T.A.S.P. class before gaining unsupervised entry. Additionally, anyone under 18 without their parent must have a signed parental form to ride the Trolley.

For further information and to review the T.A.S.P. class details, residents are encouraged to visit Pelican Bay Aquatics Center’s website.

Residents who opt not to use the Trolley can still enjoy free admission to Pelican Bay Aquatics Center by obtaining a wristband from City Hall. Proof of residency, either with a valid driver’s license or a recent utility bill from the City of Guthrie, is required.

This marks the second consecutive year that the City has offered such services, following the closure of the Highland Park pool in May 2023 due to the ongoing drought and the deteriorating condition of the facility. The City remains committed to exploring options for constructing a new pool in the future.

Guthrie continues its tradition of providing enjoyable summer activities for its residents, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to stay cool and have fun during the warmer months.
