Students, teachers and staff members were placed on shelter in place status Thursday afternoon after teachers believed they heard a gun shot east of the school.
In a released statement from Guthrie Public Schools, Fogarty Elementary was placed on alert status at 11:52 a.m. after teachers on the playground believed they heard a gun shot east of the school. As a result, the school was quickly placed on shelter in place.
The School Resource Officer and other members of the Guthrie Police Department checked the neighborhood. The noise was later determined to be related to construction in the vicinity and the alert was lifted at 12:18 p.m.
Fogarty parents were notified by the automated calling system.
School officials say shelter in place is not a full lockdown but rather a stop of all outside student or staff traffic, in which staff verifies all doors are secure.
