The Guthrie BlueJays were physical on offense and they were physical on defense Friday evening in the final non-district game against Enid as they improved to 3-0 with a shut-out victory.
The Jays kept Enid out of the end zone en route to a 34-0 win to give the Plainsmen their third straight loss to begin the season. Guthrie jumped out to a 14-0 lead at the half before scoring twice more in the third quarter to take all of what was left of any drama that was left in the game.

Enid wanted to come out with a good start after sputtering on their opening drives in their two previous games, but on the first play of the game Landry Chappell was able to stripped the ball away from an Enid receiver and the Jays recovered and gave the offense a short field to work with.
Chappell, who entered the game tied for a team high in tackles, was named the F&M Bank Player of the Game.
In response to the turnover, Guthrie needed eight plays to go 35 yards when senior running back Luke Davis hauled in a 5-yard reception from quarterback Bryan Dutton.
Dutton and the offense would later go on a 17 play drive that covered 75 yards and was capped by another touchdown reception as senior Clint Simek captured his second touchdown reception of the year with a 3-yard grab.
Dutton finished the game with four touchdown passes on 8-of-12 passing and 124 yards to help balance the Jays offense that went along with 201 rushing.
Enid turned the ball over on its first two possessions of the second half, leading to a pair of Guthrie touchdowns and finished the game with three fumbles. Perhaps the telling story was Enid finishing with just six first downs to Guthrie’s 21.
Davis returned the second half kick off into Enid territory to set up another Dutton touchdown pass, but it was not in the custom way. The Jays had run several Wildcat runs with Davis, but on this play instead of Davis tucking the ball and running, he handed it off to Dutton, who was lined up as a receiver, and found a wide open Donovan Jordan for the simple 20-yard pass. Guthrie was up 21-0 with 10:40 to play in the third quarter.
Guthrie was back on the board several minutes later when Davis collected the lone rushing score on the night with a 4-yard run.
The final score came on a well thrown ball from Dutton and an outstanding catch by Jordan. The duo connected for a 24-yard score as the ball was placed on the inside shoulder where only Jordan could come away with the catch.
The Guthrie defense was once again stellar. Entering the game they allowed just 93.5 yards of offense and held Enid’s pass happy offense to just 117 yards of offense, including 68 yards through the air.
In the three non-district games, the BlueJays defense has allowed a total of 107 rushing yards (35 average).
Up next Guthrie will travel to Deer Creek, on Friday, to begin district play and for the fourth straight week will see a spread type offense.
