Guthrie senior serves as Senate page for Sen. Chuck Hall

Guthrie High School senior John “Ridge” Garrett recently completed a week of service as a Senate page for Chuck Hall, R-Perry, during the 10th week of the Oklahoma legislative session, held April 6–10 at the State Capitol.

Garrett assisted Hall’s office during one of the busiest times of the session, gaining firsthand experience in the legislative process and the development of the state budget. Hall praised Garrett’s dedication and work ethic throughout the week.

“Ridge was a hardworking page who was a tremendous help to my office and the constituents of Senate District 20 during one of the busiest times of the legislative session,” Hall said. “He gained valuable, behind-the-scenes insight into how state government operates, including the process of developing and passing a state budget. I wish him all the best as he finishes his senior year and prepares for college.”

The Senate Page Program provides high school juniors and seniors with a unique opportunity to observe state government in action. Pages assist with Senate committee meetings and daily floor sessions, offering them an inside look at how legislation is debated and passed.

During their time at the Capitol, Garrett and fellow pages met with Kevin Stitt, Senate President Pro Tempore Lonnie Paxton, and Senate Minority Leader Julia Kirt. The group also participated in a mock committee meeting and floor session, where they presented and debated bills from the 2026 legislative session.

In addition to their legislative duties, the pages toured the Oklahoma History Center and the newly renovated Oklahoma State Capitol, both of which showcase Oklahoma’s rich history through extensive collections of artwork and historical exhibits.

Garrett is actively involved in agricultural activities and is a member of the Future Farmers of America (FFA). He enjoys hunting, fishing, and farming, and has experience showing pigs and judging livestock. He has also participated in the Wreaths Across America ceremony in Guthrie.

Following graduation, Garrett plans to study agribusiness at Redlands Community College, where he has received a scholarship. He intends to continue livestock judging while attending Redlands before transferring to either Oklahoma State University or Texas Tech University to further his education.

Garrett is the son of Mark and Claudia Garrett and looks forward to applying the knowledge and experience gained during his time at the Capitol to his future academic and professional pursuits.
