Guthrie Police Sgt. Mike Lanoy has retired after more than two decades of service to the Guthrie community.
Lanoy announced earlier this month that Feb. 2 would mark his final day with the Guthrie Police Department, closing a 21-year career dedicated to protecting and serving residents.
“After 21 years with the Guthrie Police Department, I am retiring. February 2nd is my last day with the department,” Lanoy shared. “I want to sincerely thank the officers I have worked alongside over the years. It has truly been an honor. I have enjoyed serving the citizens of Guthrie and am grateful for the experiences, relationships, and memories along the way.”
The retirement announcement was made during the Guthrie City Council meeting on Jan. 20, where city leaders and community members recognized Lanoy’s years of commitment and service.
Throughout his career, Lanoy built a reputation not only as a dedicated officer but also as someone who valued community engagement. One memorable example came last summer at Mineral Wells Park, when Lanoy stopped by the splash pad while on patrol and surprised children enjoying the warm afternoon.
He handed out police-sticker badges and toy police cars, sparking smiles and excitement among the kids and appreciation from the parents.
“This sweet officer stopped by the splash pad at Mineral Wells and passed out cars and stickers to the kiddos. How sweet!!” a parent shared in a social media post that quickly drew positive reactions from residents.
Moments like those helped strengthen the relationship between law enforcement and the community, showing the personal side of policing that often leaves a lasting impression.
As Lanoy steps away from the department, he leaves behind a legacy of service, relationships, and dedication that has touched both fellow officers and the Guthrie community over the past two decades.
