A collection of talent gathered at the Guthrie Scottish Rite Temple Auditorium Sunday afternoon with vocalists and a little dancing. The event was sponsored by the Guthrie Masonic Lodge #35 in part of a fundraising effort for the Trinity DeMolay Chapter.
In total, 17 acts performed with 16 contestants singing with one group of young ladies using their dances moves in the dark. The Glow Girls used glow sticks to outline their bodies and collected several rounds of applause and high scores from the judges.
The Glow Girls (Mekalia Carey, Alex Griffin, Lauren Parker and Lindsey Ball) claimed first prize in the youth division (high school and below). First runner-up was Glow Girl Parker for her rendition of “Nightingale”.
In the adult division (college or above) it was Bill Perring’s performance of the “Bring Him Home” that claimed first prize. Just behind him was Joyce Holden and her rendition of “Orange Colored Sky”.
The selected judges were Mark Spradling, Shana Bench and Tom Holtz. The emcees Jake Nichols and Michael Buckley kept the audience entertained between acts.
The audience was able to vote for their favorites as well by placing a dollar in their selection’s bucket. In the end, the crowd voted Hagan Wano’s performance of “Home” as their top choice and Karrie Evans’ was runner-up with “I’ll Be”.
“We are hoping to make this an annual event,” organizer Steve Hannah said.
