The Guthrie Lady Jays are set to host a Class 5A regional softball tournament beginning Wednesday after locking up second place in their district with a dominant 14-0 win over Midwest City.
Just a few weeks ago, Guthrie needed eight innings to edge the Bombers, 2-1, at home — but this time, the Lady Jays left no doubt.
Midwest City helped shake up the district standings after stunning crosstown rival Carl Albert, 3-2, though Carl Albert ultimately claimed the district title. Guthrie’s strong finish secured the home regional.
The Lady Jays close the regular season at 12-12 overall, after a 9-6 loss to 6A Piedmont last week.
Guthrie will open regional play at 11 a.m. Wednesday against Western Heights (10-18). The second game will feature Santa Fe South (0-16) against Noble (17-17). Winners of the opening round will face off at 3 p.m., while the losers will meet at 5 p.m.
The regional championship game is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, with an if-necessary game to follow at 4 p.m. in the double-elimination format.
The state softball tournament will be held next week in Oklahoma City at Devon Park (formerly Hall of Fame Stadium).
Admission for the Guthrie regional is $8.75 online or $10 at the gate.
