Mother nature was not completely all-in for Walk to School Day with cooler temperatures, but it did not stop several elementary students from making the trip.
Students from Fogarty Elementary met at the First Christian Church while Guthrie Upper Elementary School took off from the Armory. They parents, teachers, community leaders, including Mayor Steve Gentling, and officers with the Guthrie Police Department.
The event was scheduled for last week, but inclement weather postponed the event until Wednesday morning.
Walk to School Day events raise awareness of the need to create safer routes for walking and bicycling and emphasize the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion and concern for the environment. The events build connections between families, schools and the broader community.
