With runner-up finishes at the Class 5A regionals in Ponca City, the Jays and Lady Jays track teams have qualified for this weekend’s state tournament.
The Lady Jays won two events to complete a team score of 125 points. Glenpool took the top spot with 202 points. Meanwhile, the BlueJays also claimed two wins for a team score of 100 following short of Claremore’s 156 final tally.
The hurdle sprints proved to be the strong event for both teams as Asia Johnson, Susie Unger and Lewis Robinson each won a hurdle event.
Johnson needed 15.88 to cross the line in the 100 meter hurdles to claim the top prize. Unger needed 49.18 to clear the 300 meter hurdles.
The Lady Jays relay teams (100, 200 and 400 meters) each took second as Glenpool capture all three races. The 200 relay team comprises of Alma Robinson, Miracle Lennox, Aaliyah Allison and Micayla Haynes. The 400 relay team is Lennox, Allison, Unger and Addy Curtin.
Unger finished second in the 100 meter race with a 13.15 time and just behind her was Alma Robinson’s 13.22.
Lauren Toney took third in the 800 meter run in a time of 2:35.87 and then second place in the 1600 meter with a 5:51.11 time. Also in the 1600, Lexi Gathers ran a 5:52.80 for third place.
Medaila Carey leaped eight feet in the pole vault for six team points and a third place finish.
For the BlueJays, it was Lewis Robinson collecting 10 team points and the top spot in the 110 meter hurdles in a time of 15.46.
Calvin Parker ran a 11.53 in the 100 meter dash for a third place finish.
Guthrie medaled in four of the relays including a second place finish in the 4 x 100. In the 4 x 200 run the Jays were across the line first in a time of 1:32.11. Team members include Parker, Kelyn Hinds, Chase Neuman and Win Hughes.
The 4 x 400 team (Hinds, Trey Wilson, Idae Alexander and Jalyn Morgan) finished third with a 3:33.80 and the 4 x 800 team (Sean Harvey, Taylor Self, Dakota Pruitt and Kyle Owens) took third prize with a time of 8:47.55.
