Guthrie, winners of 19 straight, enters the Oklahoma panhandle 2-0 in district play. After a winless 2013 campaign, Guymon (1-4, 1-1) defeated Southeast in week four for just their second win in Class 5A since joining in 2012.

Guymon defeated Western Heights in 2012 for their first win in the state’s second largest class and overall are 2-23. Despite the win-loss record, head coach Mike Taylor remains positive in hopes of turning the corner.

Taylor says he pays close to attention to the Guthrie and Carl Albert programs and tries to implement some of those items into his program in hopes of making a difference.

Guymon will look to get running back Austin Lozano going early. Taylor likes what he has seen from the sophomore in an offense that starts just three seniors.

A season ago, Guthrie held Guymon to zero passing yards and negative 52 yards rushing.

Fast forward to this season and Guthrie continues their defensive model by holding their opponents to an inferior 37 yards rushing and under 8-points a contest.

On the other side, the Tigers will try and contain a Guthrie offense that is averaging 358 yards per game, including 246 yards on the game. The Jays are averaging 35 points per game.
