The Guthrie Lady Jays volleyball team has achieved a historic milestone, capturing their first varsity tournament championship.
The program, which began in 2023 and moved into varsity play in 2024, reached a new peak by winning the Eisenhower Lady Eagle Volleyball Classic in Lawton. Guthrie went undefeated, winning all five matches against Pathways, Snyder, Lawton Ike, and Lawton, including a second victory over Lawton Ike in the championship match.
Both matches against Ike went the distance, with Guthrie needing three sets to secure each win, including a decisive 15-10 third set in the finals.
The Lady Jays are now on a seven-match winning streak, improving to 8-3 on the season. They will travel to John Marshall on Thursday and compete in the Noble Tournament on Saturday.
First-year head coach Rachel Gibson has quickly made her mark, guiding the young program to a breakthrough victory less than two years after entering varsity competition.
