Guthrie’s Ethan Gilbert, Maddox Vaughan sign to play college football on National Signing Day

Guthrie High School celebrated National Signing Day as seniors Ethan Gilbert and Maddox Vaughan signed to continue their football careers at the college level.

In front of family, teammates, coaches, and school administrators, both athletes were recognized for their hard work and dedication that led to the opportunity to play at the next level. Head football coach Kelly Beeby noted that earning a college football opportunity has never been more challenging for high school athletes, making the moment even more meaningful for the Bluejays.

Gilbert will continue his football career at NEO A&M, where he will join his older brother Landon. A two-year starter at center, Gilbert was a key part of Guthrie’s dominant run game over the past two seasons. Known for his strength and consistency, he posted a combined 1,360 pounds in squat, bench, and deadlift and recorded a 245-pound power clean. He earned first-team all-district honors on the offensive line, was a two-time state powerlifting qualifier, and maintained a 79 percent block grade as a senior.

Vaughan signed with Northwestern Oklahoma State University following a standout senior season. Initially known for his baseball abilities, Vaughan’s growth on the football field helped pave the way to his college opportunity. He finished the season with 38 receptions for 747 yards and seven touchdowns, including a 225-yard performance against Bishop McGuinness. He earned first-team all-district wide receiver honors, was voted a team captain, and was recognized for his dedication in the weight room and at practice throughout his career.

Beeby emphasized that the signings reflect years of preparation and support from families, teachers, teammates, and coaches at every level. Both Gilbert and Vaughan were reminded that they will carry the Guthrie name with them as they continue their academic and athletic journeys.

The signing ceremony concluded with photos and celebrations as the two Bluejays officially took the next step in their football careers.
