Guthrie’s Giving Garden to host Soup and Cookie Cook Off Feb. 26

Guthrie’s Giving Garden is inviting the community to take part in a Soup and Cookie Cook Off on Thursday, Feb. 26, at 6 p.m. inside the First United Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall, 102 Noble Ave. in Guthrie.

Competitors are encouraged to bring a crockpot of soup and/or three dozen cookies to enter the friendly competition. Entry fee is $10 per category, and participants are asked to invite friends and family to attend, sample, and vote for their favorites. There is no cost for community members to attend and taste-test entries, though donations will be accepted. Each attendee will receive a ticket to cast a vote in the popular vote competition, with additional votes available for purchase at $1 each.

The top three entries in each category will also be judged by a panel of local celebrity judges, including Chef Jimmy and Keisha Johnson, Guthrie Mayor Adam Roop, and his daughter, Virginia. Champions in each category will earn bragging rights, a trophy, and plenty of community recognition. Leftover food from the event will be donated to Brunch on Noble.

All proceeds from the event will benefit Guthrie’s Giving Garden, a nonprofit production and education garden serving Logan County. The organization’s mission is to provide food security by offering access to fresh produce while promoting overall wellness through a volunteer-supported community garden. Produce from the garden is distributed to local food banks and meal-providing organizations.

Plans for Guthrie’s Giving Garden include providing resources and education to help individuals and families grow their own food and become more self-sustaining. In collaboration with the Logan County Extension Office, the garden also plans to offer cooking and food preservation classes.

To register for the cook-off or learn more about Guthrie’s Giving Garden, visit www.guthriesgivinggarden.org or email guthriesgivinggarden@gmail.com. Entries will also be accepted at the door, and pre-registered competitors will be promoted on the organization’s social media pages leading up to the event.
