Along with his work ethic and pre-season play, Guthrie’s Kentrell Brothers securely landed on the final 53 man roster for the Minnesota Vikings. Brothers will play his first regular season game in the National Football League on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans.
Selected in the 5th round (160 overall), Brothers is one of seven linebackers named to the Vikings roster.
During the preseason, Brothers played in all four preseason games, including a start in the final warmup game against the Los Angeles Rams. The former Bluejay led the Vikings with eight tackles. Overall, in the preseason, he finished with 18 tackles.
Speaking with the Vikings’ media relations after his first preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals, Brothers said he was anxious to be out there.
“I’m so anxious to be out there that I’m moving too fast,” Brothers said. “I’m filling holes too fast and not seeing pullers or not seeing flashers, just little things I need correct.”
So what was like playing in a NFL game for the first time?
“I think it was just about what I thought it’d be,” Brothers said. “I knew it’d be fast and knew it’d be physical.”
The 6-1, 242 pound linebacker is expected to make his presence known on special teams.
While at Missouri, Brothers led the NCAA with 152 tackles in his senior campaign, while earning a degree in arts and sciences.
Brothers, 23, is the all-time leading receiver for catches and yards for a season and a career in Guthrie football history. He was the first Bluejay to collect a 1,000 yards receiving. He was elite in sacks both his junior and senior years in the state and has more sacks than any other player in Guthrie history.
