Guthrie’s Peyton Read signs with Northwestern Oklahoma State for track

Guthrie High School senior Peyton Read has officially signed her letter of intent to continue her athletic career at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, where she will compete as a member of the Rangers’ track team.

The signing ceremony took place inside the Guthrie High School library, on Wednesday morning, with Read joined by her family, coaches, teammates, and friends. In addition to her track achievements, Read has excelled as a member of the cross-country and basketball teams, showcasing her versatility and dedication as an athlete.

“She’s a super talented kid,” said Coach Bryce Balenseifen. “Anytime kids go and do what they like to do at the next level, it’s really cool.”

Coach Jake Jensen also shared his confidence in Read’s future, stating, “I really believe that she’s going to have a great track season this year. When she gets to college and focuses on running track, I think she’s going to have a great time.”

For Coach Lisa Reece, who has coached Read since the seventh grade, the moment was especially meaningful. “She’s a hard worker, and I am proud of her,” Reece said. “Watching her grow into a young lady and being a role model for many has been inspiring.”
