Workers began sanding down on the original floor this week inside the Guthrie High School gymnasium. The court was installed when the high school was built in 1967.
SportsTech is in charge of the project and is expected to take 7 to 10 days to complete.
It has been 15 years and possibly longer since the gymnasium hardwood has seen such a restoration. In years past, the floor has been remodeled for various looks, but the layers were stacked up on older layers.
Soon, those layers will be gone and the original floor will once again not only shine, but will present a brighter look with years of varnish removed to help showcase the original floor.
The court will be outlined in blue lines that will indicate the out-of-bounds, three-point lines and surrounding the free-throw lanes. A white line will divide the court and at midcourt the custom Guthrie “G” logo will highlight the floor with a white G filled in with blue.
An interlocking Guthrie Bluejays will be marked on each half of the floor with Guthrie in white letters and Bluejays in blue lettering.
The gymnasium continues to get much needed upgrades. A year ago, the gymnasium lighting was improved through a grant with OG&E and retractable bleachers were installed on the north side.
