Guthrie will once again be on the big screen after a movie production filmed scenes throughout the downtown area. One of the stars of the show had Guthrie in a buzz.
Director Sean McEwen filmed several scenes in the area for the upcoming movie Whaling. The show stars Tammin Sursok and Tom Felton.
Felton, 29, starred in the Harry Potter films as Draco Malfoy, while Sursok, 33, is best known for her roles as Dani Sutherland on Home and Away, Colleen Carlton on The Young and the Restless and Jenna Marshall on Pretty Little Liars.
Felton was a local social media hit as people shared their pictures with the movie star as he took breaks from the movie.
His performances in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 won him two consecutive MTV Movie Awards for Best Villain in 2010 and 2011.
The movie production spent most of their time at the intersections of Harrison Ave. and Broad St., Oklahoma Ave. and Division St. and inside Hayes Funeral Home. For the movie, Hayes Funeral Home was renamed Forever And A Day Funeral Home and was said to have been at 4501 N. Rutherford Way in Des Moines, Iowa.
This story follows estranged brother and sister, Star and Brandon, who are brought together over their mother’s recent death and her absurd final request to dispose of her ashes in the body of a whale. With no choice or face losing their much-needed inheritance – they embark on a road trip to San Antonio, Texas. They not only encounter adventure, but also encounter each other.
A release date was not available at the time of production.
