Hayden Simpson was one of four Oklahoma athletes to finish as an All-American at the Junior National Wrestling Tournament in Fargo, North Dakota. For Simpson, he’s now a two-time All-American.
Simpson, a 2022 Guthrie High School graduate, finished fifth overall in the 285-pound weight division of the Junior Greco-Roman tourney to claim the All-American status. A year ago, he finished seventh.
In February, Simpson won the Class 5A 220-pound state championship for the Bluejays to cap off a dominating 34-2 senior year.
If all the accolades were not enough, Simpson announced on Sunday that he will attend Oklahoma State University and join head coach John Smith’s wrestling program.
“I was blessed to have many great options as to where to take my wrestling career to the next level, I want to thank all of the coaches for their interest,” Simpson said in a social media post. “However there has ALWAYS only been one place that I wanted to wrestle, and that dream is now a reality.”
Simpson is the son of John and Crissie Simpson.
