Hit and run accident sends pedestrian to the hospital

One person was taken to an Oklahoma City hospital early Saturday morning following a hit and run accident on Guthrie’s east side.

A witness tells Guthrie News Page just before 2:30 a.m. an argument ensued between a man and a group of people at a Homecoming party at the Drexel Event Center, which is located at the intersection of Drexel and Vilas.

The witness said the male subject got into a vehicle, drove north on Drexel at a high rate of speed and nearly crashed at the Masonic Temple. The driver then turned around, headed south traveling even faster, struck the pedestrian from behind and drove off.

The victim was said to have been lifted over 10 yards in the air. The 40-year-old was transported to OU Medical Center with possible head and back injuries.

At last report, the victim was said to be in stable condition.

An alert was sent out to law enforcement to be on the look out for the vehicle matching the description at the scene.

A Logan County Sheriff’s deputy located the described vehicle and performed a traffic stop on Interstate 35 at Waterloo Road. Inside the vehicle were two males.

Marcus Tranell Riggins, 31, was taken into custody for warrants, while Jurice Thomas, 43, was arrested for driving under the influence.

Both suspects are being held pending an investigation.

Sgt. Jeremy Thorne with the Guthrie Police Department told Guthrie News Page, on Saturday afternoon, they can not confirm the vehicle in the hit and run is associated with the vehicle that was pulled over and that they continue to investigate the case.
