With two regionals games still left on the schedule, the Guthrie High School softball has secured a home regional. The Lady Jays secured the regional with a win in Woodward.
With a season sweep of Woodward, Guthrie will finish no worse than second place in District 5A-1 with Carl Albert as the district champs.
The Lady Jays program has not hosted a regional since 1998 after hosting five straight (1994-98).
Guthrie improved to 17-5 overall and 10-2 in district play with a 5-3 win in Woodward.
“I’m very proud of these girls,” first year head coach Booker Blakley said.
“They’ve fought hard and worked even harder to get where they need to be. We have kids who believe in team first and even though they sometimes get frustrated not playing 100 percent of the time, they are always ready to play when their number is called.
Against Woodward, Karrah Dean picked up her eighth win inside the circle, pitching seven innings, allowing three runs on six hits and striking out nine.
Guthrie will return to action Monday when they travel to El Reno. They’ll be back home on Tuesday for senior night against Western Heights, travel to Shawnee on Thursday and ending the regular season on October 1st against Weatherford.
